BENTLEY OPERATIC SOCIETY

Established 1912
Charity No: 513983

Based in Liverpool, The Bentley Operatic Society was founded in 1912 and, apart from the war years (and Covid), the society has produced a fully-staged show every year since.

While most of our performances during that time have been of the operas of Gilbert and Sullivan, we have extended our range in recent years so that we now embrace more modern forms of musical theatre and staged our Fiddler on the Roof in 2019 as part of the new venture.

Our "home" for many years was the Neptune Theatre (now known as the Epstein Theatre) in the city centre but on its closure in 2004, we moved to the Brindley Theatre in nearby Runcorn. For our 2022 production ("Made in Dagenham") we performed at the Capstone Theatre (part of the Liverpool Hope University campus) and in 2023 moved back to the Epstein where we performed an incredibly well-received version of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat".  Sadly, the Epstein is now closed due to the withdrawal of city council funding so we are moving back to the Capstone this June for our 2024 show "OKLAHOMA".

We also give a number of Concerts each Autumn.

HILARY GALLEY - PRESIDENT

Thank you for your interest in our wonderful Bentley Operatic Society. We are, in fact, the only musical theatre society that is actually based in the city and we’ve been presenting shows with great success for over 100 years.

However, we don’t believe in standing still and are always looking for new and innovative ways to showcase our members’ talents as well as giving them the opportunity to gain new friends whilst experiencing the joy of singing.

But it’s not just about being on stage – we welcome anyone who wants to be involved with us, whether that’s backstage, front-of-house, making props or painting scenery. We pride ourselves on being a vibrant and inclusive group – infact, we are “The Bentley Family!”
