The show will go on for Joseph as Epstein Theatre announces sad news

Updated: Jun 15, 2023

The Bentley will perform at the Epstein Theatre one last time as it was announced that the theatre will be closing its doors at the end of June.

Following the news that the Epstein Theatre will close its doors at the end of June, The Bentley will continue on to perform its production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat at the venue next week.

The team behind the Epstein Theatre has announced that the cultural space will close on Friday June 30. This follows a decision by Liverpool City Council to end its financial support which helped to sustain the venue.

This very sad news means that The Bentley will have to find a new home for its 2024 production but would like to dedicate the performances to all the hard working staff and team that work at the venue.

The Bentley has performed at the venue since 1926 and has a number of fond memories at the venue.

You can see below a picture from the 1995 production of Gondoliers and many of the existing members from the time talk 'fondly' about how they used to have to carry all the set up the stairs because it wouldn't fit in the lift.

The society has spent many long and loving years at the venue and hopes that next week's performance will be a night that will go down in the history books.

The Bentley hopes that a situation can be resolved between the respective parties or alternative funding can be found.

Our thoughts are with all the hard working staff and freelancers over at the Epstein who do a great job running one of Liverpool's oldest theatres.
