Pirates of Penzance in Liverpool audition information

Auditions for principal roles for our 2023 semi-staged concert of Pirates of Penzance will take place in November, 2022.

Auditions for our next production, Pirates of Penzance will take place on Sunday, November 13, 2022. Link to our audition pack is below.

A summary of our upcoming production is below, prepared by our Chairman Jim Craig.

It’s worth remembering that when The Bentley started performing the works of Gilbert and

Sullivan, 110 years ago, Gilbert had only been dead for a year and the pair’s last collaboration, The Grand Duke had had its first performance only 16 years earlier.

Although The Bentley is now performing musicals from more recent times, we are delighted that we’ve been able to fit in a semi-staged concert version of The Pirates of Penzance between our autumn concert season and our next main production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor ® Dreamcoat, which we will be presenting in June 2023.

Gilbert and Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance is a delightful comic opera with rousing choruses,

swash-buckling pirates, bumbling policemen and a typical Gilbertian plot that is based upon the confusion that can be caused by being born in leap year on 29th February. We would love you to come and join us for this production, which will take place early in February

2023.

There will be a short, but quite intensive, rehearsal period during January – Tuesday

evenings for everyone and Thursday evenings for principals. Nearer the performance everyone will be needed on Thursdays and possibly a couple of Sunday afternoons.

If you want to be in the chorus – and we need lots of men to be pirates and policemen – there is no need to audition, just contact the secretary (info@bentleyoperatic.co.uk) and give her your details.

If you want to audition for a principal part please check out the audition pack below. Auditions will be held on Sunday, November 13, 2022.

All the information you need is in the audition pack but if you have difficulties accessing, please email info@bentleyoperatic.co.uk

If you want to take part it is essential that you become a member of the society and pay the

membership fee for the production which is £25. The good news is that if you decide to stay with us, the £25 will be deducted from the fee for the next production.
